VM Bebot Rodriguez Aims for Excellence in Governance with SGLG Advisory Board Proposal

LAST year, Cagayan de Oro City earned the prestigious Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). This honor, awarded to only a select few local government units, stands as a testament to the city's dedication to transparency, accountability, and service excellence.

Recently, the city welcomed the SGLG regional assessment team to initiate the evaluation process for the 2024 award. Led by Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy and Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, alongside city department heads and partner agencies, the assessment aimed to gauge the city's performance across several criteria essential for the seal.

Why Does SGLG Matter?

Enshrined in Republic Act No. 11292, the SGLG aims to commend LGUs that demonstrate outstanding performance in various aspects of governance. These include effective public fund management, disaster preparedness, social inclusivity, healthcare implementation, economic promotion, citizen protection, and environmental sustainability. It serves not only to commend exemplary performance but also to inspire continuous improvement and accountability among local leaders and communities.

Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez understands the importance of these evaluations in advancing local governance in Cagayan de Oro. To further this cause, she has proposed an ordinance to establish the Seal of Good Local Governance Advisory Board.

“As the City Vice Mayor, hugot akong pagtuo sa importansya sa whole-of-government efforts aron makab-ot ang maong award. Kini nga board maghatag ug dugang nga gabay sa atong paningkamot nga mahimong modelo sa maayong pagdumala alang sa tanang Kagay-anons,” stated Vice Mayor Bebot.

The establishment of this advisory board underscores the lady vice mayor’s commitment to continually foster service excellence. She envisions Cagayan de Oro as a benchmark for local governance nationwide, contributing significantly to the overarching goals of nation-building.

By striving for the highest standards, VM Bebot aims to ensure that every Kagay-anon benefits from transparent, accountable, and effective local governance. The SGLG, for her, transcends mere recognition; it symbolizes the city’s enduring promise to its people. It signifies a government that listens and a local government that constantly strives to address the needs of its people.

Indeed, the SGLG serves as a beacon of hope for every Kagay-anon. It is a reminder that their city is in good and capable hands, and it is a testament to what is possible when leaders come together with a shared vision of progress and accountability.
