Vice Mayor Rodriguez urges action on comprehensive drainage master plan

“Make sure that it’s really a comprehensive plan that they can produce because I’ve been asking for that for so long,” says Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, urging action on a detailed drainage master plan for Cagayan de Oro City.

Vice Mayor Rodriguez made this remark during Monday's regular session in response to the special report by Councilor Yevonna Yacine B. Emano, who proposed a resolution requesting the city’s district engineering offices of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), along with the City Engineer’s Office (CEO), to submit comprehensive drainage system master plans for the city’s eastern and western areas.

Rodriguez underscored the importance of a well-defined and actionable plan, expressing frustration over delays. “If you say comprehensive, it’s very detailed; and I hope they can produce (it), and this will be discussed amongst you in the committee on [public works],” she stated.

She also emphasized the need for persistent oversight to prevent plans from stalling, calling for political resolve within the committee to follow up on any progress and challenges.

“Let’s have this political will to really follow up on what we see along the way,” she added, urging continuity beyond the discussion stage.

Councilor Emano’s resolution seeks to address long-standing flooding issues and to enhance resilience in infrastructure planning.
