However, recent concerns about the state of education in the country have emerged, prompting reflection on the need for comprehensive reforms.

Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC), a teachers’ organization, said in a statement after the poor result of the latest Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) performance of Filipino students that, “In addition, the poor treatment of teachers, especially in terms of welfare, is perhaps one of the most pressing concerns. Teachers in the Philippines are among the lowest paid in the world... and the teaching profession is far from attractive to the best available talents, a violation of the constitutional mandate.”

To address these concerns and solidify its standing as a regional frontrunner and a beacon of educational excellence in Mindanao, Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez envisions to champion another important legislation — one that places paramount importance on the development of teachers, the backbone of our educational system.

The proposed Teacher Development Ordinance is not just a piece of legislation; it's a testament to Vice Mayor Bebot’s unwavering belief in the transformative power of education. It is a pledge to stand with those who devote their lives to shaping generations, ensuring they have the necessary tools and unwavering support to flourish.

Through the proposed ordinance, the good vice mayor aims to systematically enhance, retool, and revitalize the skills of teachers in order to elevate the quality of education.

By prioritizing the professional growth as well as the well-being of educators, the legislation sets the stage for improved student outcomes and performance, thereby fostering graduate employability.

For VM Bebot, professional development is the cornerstone of ensuring that teachers are equipped with the latest pedagogical strategies, technological tools, and subject matter expertise to effectively guide students. By institutionalizing mechanisms that empower educators, Cagayan de Oro City is positioning her constituents to become builders of the nation and bridges to the world.
