Suan seeks more assistance to PWDs

“KUNG kita nga piskay ang panglawas galisod man gani sa pandemya samotan pa gyud sa MECQ unsa na kaha atong mga kaigsoonan nga nag-agwanta og disabilities?”

This was raised by Councilor Lordan G. Suan in his special report during the City Council regular session yesterday presided over by Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy based on the assumption that PWDs have not been given much aid or assistance during

the pandemic.

“Because of the numerous problems our city is currently facing, we cannot be blamed if some sectors won’t be given as much attention as necessary. One of these sectors is the

persons with disabilities (PWDs). I have not heard that these Kagayanons have already received from the city or correct me if I’m mistaken,” the councilor cited.

Suan said for the city to be able to give in a timely manner, preferably while the MECQ is ongoing, it needs to have its own City Social and Welfare and Development (CSWD) Office to determine the most helpless and vulnerable of the PWDs and submit the

accurate list to the national government for processing and verification.

“The reason why I came up with this report is because I was interviewed last week on a popular radio program, along with the president of the association of PWDs and they were asking for help regarding this matter. It is my intention that we facilitate the

referral of this vulnerable sector to the DSWD, however, it requires a formal endorsement from the city through our own CSWD before they will act,” he explained.

With this, the councilor formally submitted his proposal asking and/or earnestly requesting the CSWD to process the list and complete its referrals to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The matter was referred to the committee on social services, chaired by Councilor Joyleen Mercedes L. Balaba, for appropriate and immediate action.
