Suan calls for waiving of penalties, surcharges of business taxes

COUNCILOR Lordan Suan on Monday reiterated his call for the city government to waive penalties, surcharges, and interests of business taxes.

In his special report, the councilor pointed out that the declaration of Region 10 under a state of calamity after being battered by typhoon Odette and the level three alert category of the city due to the surge in Covid cases will take its toll on the city’s economy.

He said once again it is the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) that will have to bear this damage.

While expressing gladness over the extension of the period for the business renewal, Councilor Suan said the waiving of penalties and surcharges to businessmen and market vendors will be an economic relief to them during this time.

He also proposed that they be given the option to settle their obligations on a staggered payment.

“Afterall, what are we in this world for except to make life easier for our fellowmen,” he stressed.
