SP seeks hiking Oro senior citizens pensioners

THROUGH a resolution, the 20th City Council during its regular session presided over by Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, requested DSWD Secretary Rexlon Gatchalian to increase the number of senior citizen-recipients of the national pension program in Cagayan de Oro City.

This was the offshoot of the special report of Councilor Yevonna Yacine B. Emano, chair of the City Council Committee on Senior Citizens, as she recognized the need for more seniors in the City receive pension from the national government to provide them with adequate support in their later years.

Emano said that 16,528 senior citizens are now currently receiving pensions from the local and national government. However, 10,358 seniors are still on the waitlist, as per data from Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA).

“(Out of the 10,358 seniors) Naa na ta’y na-validate nga more than 5,000 (seniors) nga pwede na makadawat ani nga pension. So again, (through) this (resolution) hopefully madungagan ang atong mga beneficiaries sa atong senior citizens from the national pension or from DSWD,” she manifested.

“Maghangyo ta pamaagi sa usa ka resolusyon nga hopefully at the proper time today atong mapasa so that maapil sa 2025 or basin diay madungagan lang,” Councilor Emano concluded.
