IN line with intentions to promote energy efficiency and conservation and facilitate the implementation of energy projects, the 19th City Council headed by Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy during its regular session this week presided over by Councilor Edna M. Dahino, approved an ordinance adopting the Energy Code of Cagayan de Oro.

Authored by Councilor Teodulfo E. Lao, Jr, the legislation will harmonize local and national policies on energy projects and energy utilization, efficiency, safety, resilience, and development.

It provides the creation of the Energy Sector Committee composed of the city mayor as the chair, with the heads of the Department of Engineering, Office of the Building Official, Business Permit and Licensing Division, City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office, and other concerned departments and offices as members.

Members also include representatives of the private sector and academe, the Orio chamber, and Local Special Body-accredited civil society organizations, among others.

The committee will be tasked to develop, formulate, evaluate, recommend approval, and oversee the implementation of energy policies, programs and projects. It shall likewise develop and support policies, programs and projects to promote, encourage, assist and support the exploration and development of energy sources within the locality in support of the national government’s aim of achieving an optimal energy mix from conventional to alternative, renewable, and other sources of energy.

The ordinance was endorsed by the committee on energy chaired by Councilor Lao and on laws and rules chaired by Councilor Ian Mark Nacaya.
