SP drops case vs Macasandig Chief
THE 20th City Council, in its regular session last Monday presided over by City Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, adopted the Order of the Committee on Ethics and Blue Ribbon dismissing the case against Macasandig Barangay Chair Amor Sanchez for lack of merit.
The case stemmed from the complaint of a resident foreigner about his neighbor, who continually received visitors and had a drinking spree at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was established that there was no complaint filed by the complainant before the Barangay Office of Macasandig thus, the alleged failure to issue a Certificate to File Action was unjustified.
Further, the Committee “finds no clear showing of deliberate intent on the part of the Respondent to discriminate the Complainant based on nationality or race.”
However, the Committee “cautioned Sanchez to explain matters in a way that does not or cannot be interpreted to be discriminatory.”
The Resolution of the Committee was signed by Councilors Edgar Cabanlas, Jose Pepe Abbu Jr., Roger Abaday, Romeo Calizo, and Girlie Balaba.
