SP congratulates City nutrition program coordinator, brgy nutrition scholar
IN its regular session on Monday, the 20th City Council of Cagayan de Oro, presided over by Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, commended Sherill Faith P. Espanola for her significant achievement as the 2023 National Outstanding City Nutrition Program Coordinator.
This prestigious award, granted during the National Nutrition Awarding Ceremony on February 12, 2024, at Manila Hotel, recognizes her work in implementing the city’s nutrition programs, which align with the National Nutrition Council’s (NNC) standards for impactful health initiatives.
Espanola’s award highlighted the Cagayan de Oro’s commitment in improving nutrition management and stakeholder collaboration from 2016 to 2022.
The city’s innovative approaches included programs like "Health and Nutrition for Golden Years" for senior citizens, infant and young child feeding forums, and initiatives addressing severe malnutrition, such as the "Zero SAM sa Oro" project for children under five.
These efforts reflect not only Espanola's leadership but also the city's commitment to sustainable, community-centered health practices, ultimately earning Cagayan de Oro both national recognition and a P1 million prize to support the program further.
In a separate resolution, the council also congratulated Loidaliza C. Vizcayno for her exemplary performance as a national contender in the 2023 Search for Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar.
This recognition occurred alongside Espanola's award at the 2023 National Nutrition Awarding Ceremony, held on February 12, 2024, at Manila Hotel.
Vizcayno’s achievement underscores her dedication to grassroots-level nutrition advocacy and her vital role in promoting health and well-being at the barangay level.
The legislation was sponsored by Councilor Maria Lourdes S. Gaane, chair of the City Council Committee on Health, Nutrition and Health Insurance, and approved by all members of the City Council.
