SP confers posthumous award to BGen Pel
THE 20th City Council, in its regular session Monday, presided over by Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, adopted a resolution expressing its posthumous appreciation and commendation to Brigadier General Patriarch Robinson P. Pel of the Philippine Army for his invaluable services and heroic acts during Typhoon Sendong as then Commander of the 4th Signal Battalion and Command Duty Officer of the 4th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army.
Brigadier General Pel was an officer in the Philippine Army who served as the Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for C4ISTAR Systems, AJ6 in 2023. He was promoted together with the nine AFP generals and senior officers for their dedication and contributions to the military's mission of transforming the AFP into a modern and capable force.
During Typhoon Sendong, Brigadier General Pel played a critical role in rescue and relief operations by leading efforts in evacuating residents from the hardest-hit areas, coordinating with local government units to provide immediate aid, and ensuring that relief goods reached isolated communities despite the challenging conditions.
His leadership was pivotal in saving lives and providing much-needed support to those affected by the devastating floods and landslides that resulted from the typhoon.
Typhoon Sendong, known internationally as Tropical Storm Washi, struck the Philippines in December 2011, causing catastrophic flooding, particularly in the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan. The storm resulted in over 1,000 deaths and left hundreds of thousands displaced.
The legislation was sponsored by Vice Mayor Rodriguez and approved by all members of the City Council.
