SP backs 2025 budgets of 5 SK urban brgys

The 20th City Council, in its recent session, has approved the 2025 annual budgets of the Sanggunian Kabataan (SK) of Barangays 9, 16, 20, 26, and 28, this City.

Barangay 9 SK has an estimated budget of ₱396,351.00; Barangay 16 SK, ₱341,157.00; Barangay 20 SK, ₱347,384.00; Barangay 26 SK, ₱635,496.00; and Barangay 28 SK, ₱410,564.00.

A significant portion of the approved budgets is appropriated for youth development and empowerment programs, in accordance with Republic Act 10742, also known as the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Reform Act of 2015, which mandates that 10% of the barangay’s budget be allocated to SK initiatives to implement programs that benefit their communities.

Each barangay SK has earmarked funds for honoraria, operational expenses, and targeted programs aimed at fostering youth engagement in various sectors, including education, health, environment, governance, economic empowerment, peacebuilding, and social inclusion.

The budgets also cover necessary administrative costs such as travel, training, office supplies, repairs and maintenance, and membership dues to SK federations and other youth organizations.

The committee on sports and youth development, chaired by Councilor Kenneth John D. Sacala, and the committee on laws and rules, led by Councilor Edgar S. Cabanlas, sponsored the approval of said SK budgets. (SPEscoltos/SP)
