SP asks Mayor Moreno, City COVID-19 TF to open fitness, entertainment facilities, water rafting

WITH the decreasing number of COVID-19 cases and to balance the economy and the need of the people in the city, the 19th City Council headed by Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy adopted a resolution requesting Mayor Oscar Moreno and the Cagayan de Oro COVID-19 Task Force to consider the provisional opening of operations of internet cafes, videoke/entertainment bars, electronic games centers, sports centers, gymnasiums, massage parlors or spas, white water rafting and other tourism-related establishments or indoor fitness facilities.

This is, however, subject to heightened health protocols, guidelines or restrictions as may be promulgated by Mayor Moreno or the COVID Task Force.

The resolution was sponsored by Councilors Edgar Cabanlas, Ian Mark Q. Nacaya, and Edna Dahino.

It may be recalled that in his special report last week, Councilor Cabanlas said people seem to be separated from human contact because of the fear brought about by COVID-19 and the restriction of the infection of the virus.

He proposed that the local IATF reconsider the policy or regulation on the reopening of massage clinics, gyms and sports centers. He said these facilities are essential in human interaction and in reducing stress and anxiety, especially during the pandemic.

“People are now losing intimate connection with other people even with our families,” he cited.
