SP approves establishment of Local Cultural Inventory of Cagayan de Oro City
THE Local Cultural Inventory of Cagayan de Oro City will be established soon.
This, after the 20th City Council during its regular session presided over by City Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, endorsed to the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) to form part of the Philippine Registry of Cultural Property (PRECUP) the Local Cultural Inventory of Cagayan de Oro City.
This includes The Executive House; Agusan Hill (site of the Battle of Agusan Hill); Macahambus Hill (site of the Battle of Macahambus Hill); Casa del Chino Ygua (Balay nga Bato); Saint Augustine Metropolitan Cathedral and Garden; Cagayan de Oro City Hall Grounds (Pagtaas ng watawat ng Pilipinas sa Cagayan de Misamis, Enero 10, 1899); Plaza de los Heroes; Huluga Caves; Cagayan de Oro Maternity Hospital and Puericulture Center (site of the signing of the pact of resistance at the onset of the Philippine-American War); City Tennis Court (site of the Spanish colonial period, Estacada de Defensa); Macabalan Wharf; Ysalina Bridge; Cagayan Waterworks Tanks; El Pueblo a sus Heroes Monument; Gaston Park/ Plaza Cagayan; Golden Friendship Park/ Plaza Divisoria; and Jose Rizal Monument.
This is in compliance to Section 2 of Republic Act No. 10066, known as the “National Cultural Heritage Act of 2009” mandates the protection, preservation, conservation and promotion of the nation’s cultural heritage, its properties and histories, and the ethnicity of local communities.
In his letter, City Mayor Klarex Uy said that the inclusion of this local cultural inventory or registry in the PRECUP is an effective means of preserving these properties and the rich cultural and historical heritage of sites.
The city government of Cagayan de Oro, in its effort to help promote the National Cultural Heritage Act, has initiated the inventory of cultural properties in the city, reflective of its rich and unique history, the mayor added.
Councilor Jay R. Pascual, Chairman of the Committee on Tourism, sponsored the resolution on the establishment of local cultural inventory, citing the city has many sites to preserve and worth noting.
