SP approves creation of R&D committee

The 20th City Council on its regular session Monday presided over by Vice Mayor Jocelyn B. Rodriguez enacted an ordinance creating the Committee on Research and Development and Innovation under the City Development Council.

Pursuant to Section 112 of RA 7160, the local development councils may form sectoral or functional committees to assist them in the performance of their functions in setting the direction of economic and social development and coordinating development efforts within its territorial jurisdiction.

The Committee on Research and Development and Innovation shall formulate local objectives for urban development and to design broad strategies for the accomplishment of these objectives.

It shall also develop and manage the city’s lands which have been identified as suitable for housing and urban development in accordance with the approved Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP).

Furthermore, the committee shall likewise determine the participation and coordinate the activities of the key government agencies involved in developing urban infrastructure systems that includes, but not limited to, housing, transportation, water, energy, telecommunications, sanitation, solid waste management, and parks and recreation, among others.

The legislation was reviewed and endorsed by the committees on planning, research and innovation and people’s organization accreditation and on laws and rules both chaired by Councilor Ian Mark Q. Nacaya.
