SP amends Ordinance No. 12860-2014

The 20th City Council, during its regular session yesterday presided over by Vice Mayor Jocelyn B. Rodriguez, enacted an ordinance amending Ordinance No. 12860-2014, otherwise known as the 2015 Cagayan de Oro City Revenue Code, specifically Section 157 under Article NN (Local Civil Registry Fees) so as to charge for free various Local Civil Registry services.

In his letter to the City Council, City Mayor Rolando A. Uy said the amendment shall be in connection to the “Kasalan ng Bayan” under the “Klarex nga Serbisyo sa Baryo” to accommodate dozens of couples every week mostly indigents who cannot afford to pay for the applicable fees relating to the issuance of their marriage licenses.

As provided for in Section 157, the proposed amendment shall include free of charge the payments for sale of application form for marriage, filing fee, marriage solemnization fee and marriage license fee (local).

NOT FOR EVERYBODY

For her part, Councilor Yevonna Yacine B. Emano suggested for an additional amendment that only indigent couples should be granted free of charge for the above-mentioned services. The legislation was certified urgent by the City Mayor and endorsed and approved by the members of the City Council.
