SP accredits five CSOs for membership in CDC’s Comm on People’s Org


THROUGH a resolution, the 20th City Council, in its regular session Monday, adopted a resolution accrediting five (5) Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) for purposes of their membership in the Committee on People’s Organization of the City Development Council pursuant to Ordinance No. 14334-2022 or “An Ordinance Strengthening Participatory Governance in the City of Cagayan de Oro through the empowerment of civil society organizations by establishing a Committee on People’s Organization in the City Development Council (CDC), prescribing its powers and functions, and providing for their participation in the local special bodies and various boards, councils, task forces, and similar groups.”


These CSOs are the Group Foundation, Inc.; Safer River Life Saver Foundation, Inc.; Oro Habitat for Humanity, Inc.; Bagong Buhay Multi Lingkod Ng Filipino sa Pag-Unlad; and Northern Mindanao Holistic Therapeutic Blind Masseur Service Cooperative.


A people’s organization refers to an association of residents in a barangay or barangays, or persons belonging to a particular group or sector, established to promote public interest and with an identifiable leadership structure and membership. It is often formed among the disadvantaged sectors of society, such as the farmer-peasant, artisanal fisher folk, workers in the formal sector, and migrant workers, among others.


The legislation was reviewed and endorsed by the Committees on Planning, Research and Innovation and People’s Organization Accreditation, chaired by Councilor Ian Mark Q. Nacaya, and on Laws and Rules, chaired by Councilor Edgar S. Cabanlas.
