Social services body to discuss proposed creation of CDO Justice Zone

THE City Council Committee on Social Services, chaired by Councilor Joyleen Mercedes L. Balaba, will meet today to discuss the proposed ordinance creating the Cagayan de Oro Golden Justice Zone.

Authored by Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, the proposed ordinance aims to contribute to justice system efficiency, effective resolution of justice issues, and safeguarding children from online and offline exploitation.

The formation of the Cagayan de Oro City Golden Justice Zone is set to advance justice sector coordination of the Justice Sector Coordinating Council (JSCC), which includes the Supreme Court, the Department of Justice (DOJ), and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

The Justice Zone, endorsed by the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2023-2028, is critical in improving sector efficiency and accountability by fostering collaboration among law enforcement, prosecution, courts, correctional facilities, and community services.

In adopting this policy, the City commits to making available its resources to support the JSCC’s goal of delivering responsive and real-time justice. This includes the implementation of context-based solutions to justice issues, enhancing coordination among justice sector institutions, and providing technical assistance and equipment support, The Gavel learned.
