Single Official Social Media Account Law up for review
THE City Council committee on planning, innovation and development, chaired by Councilor Ian Mark Q. Nacaya, is set to discuss the proposed ordinance mandating City Hall offices and all barangays in Cagayan de Oro City to maintain a single official social media account page per social media platform.
Proposed by Councilor Malvern A. Esparcia, the ordinance is pursuant to Section 24, Article II of the 1987 Constitution recognizing the vital role of communication and information in nation-building.
It aims to promote and advocate the use of social media to foster good governance, transparency and accountability, citizen’s participation, productivity and organizational performance and improvement of public service delivery.
It shall also keep the general public informed with the relevant announcements, alert the public of warnings of a potential threat, and share relevant, valuable content and information to the constituents, among others.
