Rising price of eggs alarms Goking
Councilor Gorge S. Goking, chair of the City Council committee on trade and commerce, is now looking for enough supply of poultry eggs in the city and in the whole Mindanao as it is the cheapest source of protein.
The price of poultry eggs has already increased by almost 45% due to the domino effect of inflationary pressures from other goods and may have damaging effects on the Filipinos’ nutrition.
The Department of Agriculture (DA) data showed that eggs are the cheapest source of protein, now retailing between P6.90 to P8.70 per piece, higher than the P6 a piece during the same period last year.
Councilor Goking said that one of the reasons of the high price of eggs is the higher cost of feeds and the possible losses of producers last year due to the pandemic.
However, the councilor reminded the DTI and the CPCC to continue to monitor the prices of basic and prime commodities so that the consumer will not suffer much.
