Ramps must be passable for PWDs at all times –Judith
COUNCILOR James K. Judith II has called the attention of the City’s public market management to make sure all of its access ramps are passable for persons with disabilities (PWDs). In his report during the City Council session Tuesday presided over by Presiding Officer Protempore Councilor Romeo Calizo, Judith also urged the market management to keep the access ramps free from any forms of blockages or obstructions at all times to avoid untoward incidents involving this special group of individuals.
This is in accordance with RA 7277 and BP 344, which both provide for the enhanced mobility of disabled persons in buildings, institutions, establishments and other related structural features or infrastructures, Judith further specified.
During the session, Judith has shown a picture of an access ramp (in Carmen Public Market) reportedly occupied by a number of market vendors thereby blocking its passage way.
“Ang ako lang ang pagpatuman sa atong balaod labi na para sa atong mga kaigsoonan na mga bakol. Dili lang ni sa Carmen Market apan naa say taho na pati pud sa Cogon ug sa Westbound. Palihog ko kay daghan na kaayo mga aksidente tungod sa pagbabag sa mga access ramps na para kanila,” the councilor earnestly requested. For his part and as the Presiding Officer, Councilor Calizo said the City Council, thru the appropriate committee, may write a letter addressed to the law enforcers particularly the management of the city public markets for the purpose.
“Kay pagbadlong (ninyo) limpyo man (dayon sila), so it’s just a matter of enforcement. Now, in the exercise of our oversight function, we will just remind the management and those involved in the enforcement,” Calizo further manifested. (SP/JAOclarit/photos by JBDacer)
