Pura Luka Vega declared persona non grata in CDO

For serious disrespect and mockery of the Christian faith by portraying himself as the Black Nazarene dancing to the lyrics of Ama Namin (Our Father), the 20th City Council unanimously declared Amadeus Fernando Pagente also known as Pura Luka Vega as persona non grata in Cagayan de Oro City.

This, after Councilor Ian Mark Nacaya, on Monday’s regular session presided over by Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, reported on the sacrilegious and disrespectful performance of Pura Luka Vega as shown in a viral video. He asserted that the act was offensive to religious feelings and is in fact punishable under Article 133 of the Revised Penal Code.

“I was asked by some friends from the religious sector not just Catholics but of the Christian faith on what is the stand of the City of Cagayan de Oro with regard to the performance, and I hope we are one on this and take a firm stance in declaring the performer persona non grata,” Nacaya opined.

He further avers that while they are lawmakers they cannot close their eyes on the fact that Puka Luka Vega was not even apologetic of his actions claiming that it was just a performance, and he did not violate any law.

“It’s one thing that he is a model and performs in a modeling show, but it’s another thing if he insulted our religious practices and how we pray,” Nacaya explained.
