Public works cmte gives nod to CDO GovNet project of DICT 10
The Cagayan de Oro Government Network (CDO GovNet) project of the Department of Information and Communication Technology – Regional Office 10 (DICT-10) may be implemented already.
This, after the Committee on Public Works chaired by Councilor Edgar S. Cabanlas tackled the request of DICT-10 to allow the passing of fiber optic cable along JR Borja Bridge, for the implementation of the said project.
Aligned with the Marcos administration’s priority on digital connectivity, CDO GovNet aims to connect to the internet 98 national government agency and local government unit offices in the city using the fiber optic technologies.
During the meeting, DICT-10 Representative Michael Andrew E. Buot said that while efforts are underway to meet the project’s timeline, a right of way issue along JR Borja poses a major challenge as neither the Department of Public Work and Highways (DPWH-10) nor the Local Government Unit of Cagayan de Oro (LGU-CDO) owns it; thus neither of them has the legal authority to issue permits.
Recognizing the importance of the matter, DPWH-10, LGU-CDO, and DICT-10 have agreed in their joint meeting last March 26 to take the necessary actions to institutionalize the ownership of the bridge to LGU-CDO, so that the project may be materialized urgently.
With this, the committee endorsed the request to the Committee on Laws and Rules, also chaired by Councilor Cabanlas, for appropriate action.
