Public Order Committee to further discuss two RPOC resolutions
IN its meeting on October 12, 2023, the City Council Committee on Public Order and Safety, chaired by Councilor Romeo V. Calizo, has submitted for further review and discussion the two (2) resolutions passed by the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) during its CY 2023 2nd Quarter meeting.
This after P/Col. Salvador N. Radam, City Police Director (COCPO), has cited the need to invite representatives from the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 10 (RACU-10) to give updates on the incidents involving cybercrimes in the city.
The official said that as of this time, COCPO has not yet complied with the memorandum from the National Anti-Cybercrime Group requiring each police station to have at least two (2) personnel that will directly hold cybercrime cases.
“Wala pa man gud ni na materialize diri sa Cagayan, so with regards to this data di pa namo mahatag. So among gi-request na sa sunod meeting atong ipaapil, so that they can provide us the real time data,” the official explained.
It can be recalled that during the meeting, members reviewed Resolution No. 16, s. 2023, entitled: “Urging the Local Government Units Through their LPOC, LCPC, LSB in collaboration with the PNP, NBI, DepEd to identify Cybercrime and Cybersecurity-related activities, specifically the awareness campaign against Online Sexual Abuse of Children and Online Scams, and to include those in their respective plans and allocate funds thereof.”
Likewise, initially tackled was Resolution No. 18, s. 2023 entitled: “Requesting the Local Government Units through their Local Peace and Order Councils to include in their respective Peace and Order and Public Safety Plan (POPSP) the Procurement of Technologically-Advanced Equipment for PNP Personnel.”
As endorsed by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), these two (2) resolutions are important not only to address the lack of awareness about cybercrime and cybersecurity activities but also to effectively and efficiently prevent and counter criminality.
