Proposed Mental Wellbeing Corner endorsed

AFTER thorough deliberation, the City Council Committee on Health, Nutrition, and Health Insurance chaired by Councilor Maria Lourdes S. Gaane favorably endorsed the proposed ordinance institutionalizing the Barangay Mental Wellbeing Corner.

Authored by City Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, the proposed ordinance pointed out that by institutionalizing Mental Wellbeing Corner in the barangays, the city can ably address the mental wellbeing crisis proactively, promote early intervention, and build a stronger, more supportive community.

FUNDING

During the meeting, Dr. Angelie Loren Waga-Caguioa of DOH-10, informed the committee that the funds allocated by the DOH to the city’s mental health programs can be utilized for the implementation of the said ordinance.

For her part, Vice Mayor Rodriguez cited Section 38 of RA 11036 or the Mental Health Act of 2018 on the Upgrading of Mental Health Hospitals and Healthcare Facilities, which provides that the national government shall provide additional funding and other necessary assistance for the effective implementation of its provision.
