Proposal to condone penalties of delinquent taxpayers under study

THE City Council committee on ways and means chaired by Councilor George S. Goking during its meeting this morning discussed the proposal of Councilor Lordan G. Suan

for the condonation of surcharges and penalties of delinquent taxpayers.

Councilor Goking said that the proposal is good during this time of pandemic as people are suffering but there are existing ordinances that need to be studied and possibly repealed.

It can’t be easily imposed as we need to follow the procedure, he explained.

Councilor Goking said that it needs further study because it might be that the surcharges and penalties were incurred before the pandemic.

He also stressed that the Local Finance Office has its own guidelines on the matter.

The committee agreed to review ordinances relative to the proposal.
