Plans revising animal welfare ordinance eyed

THE Committee on Agriculture, chaired by Councilor Jay R. Pascual, will soon convene to discuss the proposed revision of the Animal Control and Welfare Ordinance.

This, after City Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez filed a draft ordinance ensuring the welfare of animals, pets, and other livestock in times of disaster and providing guidelines for their rescue.

This proposal is a way to strengthen the effectiveness of disaster response in safeguarding the welfare of animals in the community. Vice Mayor Bebot stressed that pets are just like humans and members of their families that need to be protected, loved, and cared for as well.

A series of meetings was already conducted by the Committee on Climate Change chaired by Councilor Bernie Esparcia complemented by the consultations with the Office of the City Veterinary led by Dr. Perla T. Asis to harmonize Ordinance No. 9852-2005 and Vice Mayor’s draft ordinance.

With this, Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez anticipates the positive enactment of this ordinance to address its importance in safeguarding pets and other animals during disasters.
