Oro Dads declare Barangay Balubal as Silk Production Hub

In its regular session on Monday, the 20th City Council adopted a resolution declaring the Cagayan de Oro Resettlement Socialized Housing Project (CDORSHP) 4 in Barangay Balubal as the Silk Cocoons Production Hub and Silk Weaving Village of the city.

In its letter, the City Housing and Urban Development Department (CHUDD), said the initiative is driven by the city's and the nation's robust economic performance, high demand for silk fabric, and the enthusiasm of the Balubal Sericulture Farmers, thus the importance of expanding and strengthening the Silkworm Rearing Project.

It further stated that potential partnerships with organizations like the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) support this growth, positioning Cagayan de Oro on the Philippine Silk Industry map, leading in Mindanao and eventually in the country.

The legislation was sponsored by the City Council Committees on Urban and Rural Poor and Housing Development and on Laws and Rules, both chaired by Councilor Edgar S. Cabanlas.
