Oro dads declare 4-ha. lot in Pagalungan as city composting center
TO support local farmers and enhance agricultural productivity in the city, the local government of Cagayan de Oro will soon establish the city composting center in Barangay Pagalungan.
This, as the 20th City Council, during its regular session presided over by City Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, enacted an ordinance declaring the city-owned four-hectare property, a portion of the 14.8-hectare lot located in the said barangay, as site of the proposed city composting center.
In his letter to the City Council, City Agriculturist Paterno L. Gonzales said the composting center would facilitate composting of organic waste materials and reduce the environmental impact of waste disposal. It would likewise provide a valuable source of fertilizers to support local farmers in the city, he added.
With its approval, legislators correspondingly repealed Ordinance No. 14143-2021, which earlier segregated the said lot as site of the proposed poultry dressing plant under the Philippine Rural Development Project.
The legislation was reviewed and endorsed by the Committees on Subdivision and Landed Estate and on Laws and Rules both chaired by Councilor Edgar S. Cabanlas.
