Oro dads commend Olympian boxer Carlo Paalam
IN its 90th regular session, the 20th City Council commended Carlo Paalam, the Kagay-anon boxer who represented the Philippines at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Paalam, who was the country's flag bearer alongside fellow boxer Nesthy Petecio, achieved a quarterfinal finish in the men's 57kg division.
The Olympian’s journey began as a scavenger collecting recyclable materials at the city landfill. He was discovered by a neighbor who saw him in a backyard match and encouraged him to join a local tournament organized by the city government called "Boxing at the Park."
From there, Paalam continued to compete and eventually joined the national team, earning numerous medals for the country, including a gold at the Southeast Asian Games and a silver in the flyweight division at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.
The resolution commending Paalam was proposed by Councilor Imee Moreno and received unanimous support from all council members.
