IN its recent session, the 20th City Council has approved the ₱3,326,459.00 budget of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Barangay Cugman, allowing the implementation of various youth initiatives for the year.

Of the total budget, ₱1,816,459.00 will cover operating expenses. This includes ₱648,000.00 for personal services of SK officials and ₱1,168,459.00 for maintenance and operating costs such as telephone bills, insurance premiums, SK Federation contributions, travel, repairs and maintenance, uniforms, supplies, and other essential expenditures.
For capital outlay, ₱300,000.00 is earmarked for the purchase of essential equipment, including a camera, projector, laptop, buzzer with a scoreboard, air conditioner, and a high-powered speaker with a microphone.
A significant portion of the budget, ₱1,210,000.00, has been allocated for youth participation programs designed to address key concerns and promote holistic development. Among these initiatives is the "Himsog sa Pangisip: Youth for Mental Health Care" program and the "KaleidoCare: SK Colorful Campaign for HIV Awareness."
In the field of education and skills development, the "i-SKolar sa Cugman" program will provide educational assistance, while a livelihood training initiative, in partnership with TESDA, will equip young individuals with vocational skills for economic empowerment.
SK officials will also undergo leadership training and governance seminars to strengthen their roles in community service.
Environmental protection and disaster preparedness will be promoted through programs focused on waste management and disaster risk reduction training.
Meanwhile, peace and security efforts will be reinforced through initiatives such as "Barkada Kontra Droga" and "Kabataan Kalayaan: An OSAEC Awareness Program."
To foster civic engagement and community involvement, the SK will also spearhead activities such as Linggo ng Kabataan, Barangay Day, and Barangay Fiesta celebrations, all aimed at encouraging active citizenship. Additionally, a seminar on gender sensitivity and equity will be conducted to promote inclusivity and equal opportunities for all.
The budget approval was endorsed by the committee on sports and youth development, chaired by Councilor Kenneth John Sacala, and the committee on laws and rules, chaired by Councilor Edgar S. Cabanlas. (SPEscoltos/SP)
