Oro Dads accredit CSOs for CDC People’s Org

THE 20th City Council on its regular session Monday, presided over by City Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, adopted a resolution accrediting a total of nine Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) for purposes of their membership in the Committee on People’s Organization of the City Development Council.

This is pursuant to Ordinance No. 14334-2022, or “An Ordinance Strengthening Participatory Governance in the City of Cagayan de Oro through the empowerment of civil society organizations by establishing a Committee on People’s Organization in the City Development Council (CDC), prescribing its powers and functions, and providing for their participation in the local special bodies and various boards, councils, task forces, and similar groups.”

The CSOs include the Bonbon Active Fisherfolks Association; RBMC (Reformed Batang Mindanao in Christ 29) CDO and Sub-Urban, Inc.; Kilusang Pagbabago-Lead Organization, Inc.; City Memorial Park Laborer’s Marketing Cooperative; United Upper Palalan Community Association, Inc.; Celebration International Foundation, Inc.; Kagay-an Evangelical Disaster Response Network (KEDRN); Indahag Single Motor Operators and Drivers Association, Inc. (ISMODA); and Canitoan Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative (CAFAMCO).

The people’s organization refers to an association of residents in a barangay or barangays, or persons belonging to a particular group or sector, established to promote public interest and with an identifiable leadership structure and membership. It is often formed among the disadvantaged sectors of society such as the farmer-peasant, artisanal fisher folk, workers in the formal sector, and migrant workers, among others.

The legislation was reviewed and endorsed by the Committees on Planning, Research and Innovation and People’s Organization Accreditation chaired by Councilor Ian Mark Q. Nacaya, and on Laws and Rules chaired by Councilor Edgar S. Cabanlas.
