Oro Chamber seeks review of Tax Code, other ordinances
The City Council committee on trade and commerce chaired by Councilor George S. Goking will be reviewing the request of Oro Chamber for the proposed amendments of some local economic ordinances to ensure that City Hall adapt to the changing times and the exigency of the current situation.
The Oro Chamber proposed to revisit the 2015 Local Revenue Code, considering the economic situation and the necessity to ensure that the local government can generate sufficient revenue while providing essential services to the community.
The Chamber suggested the review with concerned City Hall departments and offices and the private sector to ensure that the tax rates and fees are appropriate for the community. The business group also requested to revisit the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) ordinance of 2019 to ensure that it remains responsive to the current needs of the community and address the concerns of local business industry.
It also requested the committee to review the Investment Incentives Code to strengthen the Local Investment and Incentives Board (LIIB) in consultation with relevant government and private sector stakeholders.
The Oro Chamber also requested for the review of the tax amnesty ordinance was also requested to review. The chamber said City Hall has been providing amnesty programs to help delinquent taxpayers settle their obligations. However, it said the committee should also look into this to ensure the effectiveness in achieving the intended objectives of the amnesty ordinance.
Councilor Goking said he is in favor of the requests of the Oro Chamber and assured that the committee will immediately look into the requests.
