AMONG the five approved Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) budgets during the 118th regular session of the 20th City Council were the 2025 SK annual budgets of Barangays Nazareth and San Simon, with estimated incomes of ₱1,465,261.00 and ₱627,961.00, respectively.

Anchored on Republic Act 10742, also known as the Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act of 2015, these budgets were sourced from the mandated 10% development fund of the barangay. This allocation ensures that youth-led initiatives receive adequate financial support to implement programs and activities that benefit the youth sector.

A portion of the budget has been earmarked for personal services of SK members, amounting to ₱356,400.00 for SK Nazareth and ₱156,924.00 for SK San Simon.

Meanwhile, a significant portion is allocated for maintenance and other operating expenses (MOOE), which cover various expenditures such as travel, training, office supplies, drugs and medicines, repairs and maintenance, donations, fidelity bond premiums, and SK Federation annual dues, among others.

Furthermore, the MOOE funds will support youth development programs focused on cultural activities, health, education, economic empowerment, social inclusion and equity, peace-building and security, governance, active citizenship, environmental initiatives, and agriculture. The MOOE for SK Nazareth totals ₱1,108,861.00, while SK San Simon's MOOE amounts to ₱471,037.00.

The approval of these budgets was sponsored by the committee on sports and youth development chaired by Councilor Kenneth John Sacala with Councilor Yevonna Yacine B. Emano, member of the committee. (SPEscoltos/SP)
