Nacaya thanks NEDA-10 on CDO Metropolitanization

“We’re very happy that the proposed and the drafted feasibility studies are already done, and they are now … for consideration … by the national government.”

This was the manifestation of Councilor Ian Mark Q. Nacaya during the regular session Monday as he thanked Dir. Mylah Faye Aurora B. Cariño, CESO III, Regional Director of NEDA-Region 10, for her comprehensive report on the Metropolitanization of Cagayan de Oro City, during the City Council Regular Session last Monday.

Director Cariño, in her report, urged the city to update its CLUP (Comprehensive Land Use Plan) by integrating the Metro CDO initiatives, including not only the infrastructure flagship projects but also other catalytic projects. She also recommended that the updated version of the CLUP be utilized by the city as one of the bases for formulating its Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP). Cariño likewise encouraged the city to allocate funds and implement programs and projects that will support a sustainable and efficient metropolitanization, and finally, to support House Bill No. 1843 and other legislation for the purpose.

As Chair of the City Council Committee on Planning, Nacaya said the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) had participated in the initial city-level discussions about the metropolitanization and hired two (2) consultants for the updating of the CLUP. With this undertaking, the councilor requested NEDA to guide and provide inputs and technical support since the agency has the expertise on the matter.

“Kay naa dinha ang mga experts, … we urge that we … be guided and if there’s a need that we pass a resolution to this effect maybe [perhaps] we may also consider. We may also pass a resolution to support the proposal of Congressman Rufus B. Rodriguez before the Congress to enact the House Bill and perhaps we also ask, through a resolution, the President of the Republic of the Philippines to (prioritize) the Fourth Metropolitan in the country,” Nacaya further manifested.

On this note, Dir. Cariño offered and assured the city of NEDA’s assistance on a case-to-case basis. She even said that just last week, NEDA has approved the request of the city to conduct meeting in their office for the finalization of its CLUP.

“Bisa’g gamay ra mi pero dako kaayo ang among passion so we will participate pero sa makaya (lang) gyud namo but you can be assured that we will always give our best,” Carino assured.
