Nacaya pushes for Oro’s support to Montreal Pledge

WE must enact legislations, if necessary, that would show our support to the Montreal Pledge.”

This was the call of Councilor Ian Mark Nacaya during last Monday’s regular session of the 20th City Council, presided over by Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez.

Nacaya said that the City Government of Cagayan de Oro, through Mayor Klarex Uy, has committed to support the Montreal Pledge on Global Biodiversity as part of the City’s thrust to help protect and preserve nature.

He said that the Montreal pledge is composed of 15 actions that include increasing protected green space, reducing pesticide use by at least two-thirds, and working to eliminate plastic waste. Cities are at the forefront of biodiversity decline and have a responsibility to act to halt it and the challenge is to take 15 tangible actions towards pursuing and accelerating efforts to preserve ecosystems.

With this, he urged everyone to assist in any way possible, like by providing for a local legislative agenda and creating programs that would enhance the City’s participation to the Montreal Pledge.

“We want to assure our future citizens of a better place living with nature,” he concluded
