Nacaya calls for mass transit system in Oro’s 10-yr CLUP
“NOW is the right time to tinker and think aloud as what we would like to see in Cagayan de Oro in the year 2024 to 2034. There is no other time.”
This was the appeal of Councilor Ian Mark Nacaya, on Monday’s regular session of the 20th City Council presided over by Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, as he called for the inclusion of the Mass Transit System in the City’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP).
He said that even the mayor had yet to receive a copy of the Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP) of Cagayan de Oro which, if implemented, will help ease the traffic problem.
“People are suffering from lack of resources, lack of foresight, and lack of anticipation on how things should be done,” he stressed.
He cited the studies made by students and professors of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) and Xavier University (XU) which could have assisted the city government on traffic management but ended up sitting idly at the Roads and Traffic Administration Office.
“We had, in the past, consultants who are capable, who crafted measures that would have been implemented now but were not properly submitted to the City Council or to the CLUP Executive Committee. Sayang nga dili moabot sa konseho ug dili masukip sa CLUP,” he further lamented.
“If we will approve this new CLUP and dili makaangkas ang mass transit system, we will be seeing a Cagayan de Oro from 2024 to 2034 nga walay bag-ong innovations nga mahitabo,” Nacaya concluded.
