Nacaya airs concern of businessmen over surcharges, interest of business taxes
ON behalf of businessmen in the city, Councilor Ian Mark Q. Nacaya on Monday inquired about policies of the government in the payment of surcharges and interests in business fees during the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) and Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ).
During the regular session presided over by Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy, the councilor said he was prompted to raise the matter after receiving messages from two businessmen.
“We would like to inquire because this has disheartened some businessmen as to what really is the policy of the city government particularly the city treasurer? Their message is how come that there is a penalty being imposed when according to them there were news that came out that penalties were not imposed on the delays of payment?” Nacaya asked.
The councilor said the businessmen further inquired if the rental fees and other related business fees during the implementation of ECQ and MECQ status in the city can be scrapped considering the closure and non-operation of their respective businesses during these periods.
The matter was referred to the committee on trade and commerce chaired by Councilor George S. Goking for appropriate action.
