MOU with DOST ok’d

THE 20th City Council, on regular session Monday presided over by Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, approved the ordinance authorizing Mayor Klarex Uy to enter into and sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Regional 10, covering the implementation of the National Disaster Risk Management Plan (NDRMP) through the provision of the DOST Disaster Reduction (DRR) technologies and innovations.

Under the MOU, the DOST shall provide capacity building to Local Government Units for preparedness and mitigation and disaster risk reduction technologies such as but not limited to the early warning systems; introduce the DRR Technologies and innovations and other agencies; provide technical support for the development and implementation of identified projects for DRRM under specific Memorandum of Agreement as identified, among others.


For its part, the City Government shall allow and commit to utilize the DOST disaster reduction technologies and innovations such as but not limited to the early warning systems; and provide the needed data, information, and mechanism to be able to design, develop and implement the identified projects.


Furthermore, it shall collaborate with DOST-10 and other stakeholders in the planning of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation projects. The legislation was sponsored by the Committees on Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation and Disaster Risk Reduction and Laws and Rules respectively chaired by Councilors Bernie Esparcia and Edgar Cabanlas.
