More cell sites, opticalbroadband facilities urged
THE 20th City Council on its regular session Monday adopted a resolution urging the Globe Telecom, Inc., Smart Communications, DITO Telecommunity Corporation, Philippine Long Distance Telecommunications, Inc. (PLDT), Converge ICT Solutions, Inc., Parasat Cable TV and all other mobile telecommunications and/or internet service providers to construct or establish additional cell site towers or optical fiber broadband facilities in Cagayan de Oro City to hasten its economic development.
This was the offshoot of the special report of Councilor Ian Mark Q. Nacaya on his proposal for the city to invest in cell site projects to improve broadband internet connectivity in the city.
According to the councilor, Cagayan de Oro City despite being the regional hub of Northern Mindanao is still categorized as having a poor internet service.
As the chair of the committee on planning, research and innovation and people’s organizations accreditation, Nacaya opines that investing a few millions on broadband infrastructure would translate to billions of revenues and other economic benefits.
The new generations would also have more opportunities once the city provides them with high-speed broadband connectivity, he added.
The resolution was endorsed by the committees on planning, research and innovation and people’s organization accreditation and on laws and rules, which are both chaired by Councilor Nacaya.
