Macasandig seeks shares from mining tax on production wells
The City Council committee on ways and means chaired by Councilor George S. Goking last week tackled the request of Macasandig Punong Barangay Amor G. Sanchez to look into the city’s collection of mining taxes from the six (6) production wells of Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD) situated in its barangay. The barangay plans to claim its corresponding 35% share from the utilization of national wealth as provided in the Local Government Code of 1991.
Barangay chair Sanchez requested the chairman of the committee on environment to check how much mining tax the city is collecting from the COWD so they can correspondingly claim its share from prior years until 2022 and of other companies doing business in Macasandig.
Councilor Goking said the committee cannot provide answer to the request of Punong Barangay Sanchez until City Hall requires the COWD to submit and present pertinent documents on the matter.
He also said COWD officials should be invited during the committee meeting to shed light on the queries of Barangay Chair Sanchez.
