Kagay-anon spirit spikes at Higalaay Fiesta Volleyball on Tour: Alas Pilipinas vs. Davao Eagles

THE excitement was palpable as Kagay-anons cheered for the exhibition match between the women’s volleyball team of the Philippines, Alas Pilipinas, and the Davao Eagles for the Higalaay Fiesta Volleyball on Tour, held on August 17, 2024 at the Aquilino Pimentel Jr. International Convention Center, Barangay Indahag.

Alas Pilipinas brought their A-game with a star-studded lineup featuring some of the country’s top volleyball athletes, including setter Julia Coronel, Eya Laure, Jennifer Nierva, Vanessa Gandler, Fifi Sharma, Sisi Rondina, Cherry Nunag, Dell Palomata, Thea Gagate, Dawn Catindig, and Faith Nisperos, all expertly guided by their Coach Taka Minowa.

As a core event of the 2024 Higalaay Festival, the match garnered strong support from local government officials. The ceremonial toss, marking the start of the game, was led by Barangay Carmen Kapitan Kikang Uy, 2nd District Congressman Rufus B. Rodriguez, and members of the 20th City Council—Councilors Roger Abaday, Jay Roa Pascual, Suzette Magtajas-Daba, Alam Lim, and Kenneth John Sacala, and other partners.

In the lead-up to the event, the City of Cagayan de Oro, under Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy’s administration, hosted a warm welcome lunch for the Alas Pilipinas players and coaching staff at the City Tourism Hall. City Administrator Atty. Roy Hilario Raagas represented Mayor Klarex Uy, joined by Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez and City Councilors Pascual and Daba.

The Higalaay Fiesta Volleyball on Tour not only showcased top-tier volleyball talent but also underscored the city's vibrant sports culture, further elevating the spirit of camaraderie and celebration during the Higalaay Festival.
