Judith proposes names for numbered barangays

Councilor James K. Judith II has proposed to name the 40 numbered barangays in the city’s poblacion with proper names based on their dominant physical features, major landmarks, and natural or historical attributes.

In his special report during Monday’s regular session presided over by Vice Mayor Jocelyn B. Rodriguez, Judith says giving proper names to these numbered barangays will rid the confusion of the people who, for many years, have difficulty locating the nameless barangays.

”Dili kani re-naming kundili tagaan nato sila’g pangalan ug dugang geographical description. Buot nato tagaan og pangalan, magpabilin ang iyang numerical designation unya madugang ang iyang geographical description base sa 3 ka criteria na major landmark, natural o historical attribute, dominant physical features," he pointed out.

As this is still a proposal, Judith said public consultation will still be conducted. Reliable historians as well as representatives from the Historical Commission will also be consulted for the purpose.

”What’s in a name? Ang tubag, a lot because it gives identity to the place, historical value and heritage of the people living in the area,” stressed the councilor.

Councilor Malvern A. Esparcia co-authors the proposed ordinance.
