Judith bats for biz permit renewal on anniversary date of issuance

“Kinahanglan na nato i-repaso ang atong Tax Code particularly Section 80, paragraph E, regarding Business Permit renewal of our businessmen. Gamay nga butang apan dako kaayo’g impact sa atong ekonomiya.”

This was pointed out by Councilor James K. Judith II in his special report during the regular session Monday relative to the schedule of business permit renewal as provided in the City’s Tax Code.

According to Judith, several businessmen in the city have been complaining about the fixed schedule in the renewal of business permits within the first month of the year as they have to endure the long queue at City Hall. These complaints are valid considering that businessmen are not given any other options to comply with the said requirement, the councilor further said.

“Panahon na atong usabon ang atong ordinansa para mabahin ug makapili ang mga negosyante sa (schedule) sa paglukat sa ilang business permit. Sa paghimo nato’g Amendatory Ordinance gitagaan nato’g katumanan ang kamanduan sa Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act of 2018 or RA 11032. Gitagaan usab nato’g dugang kaikag ang atong mga negosyante nga modugang og bubo sa ilang puhunan dinhi sa atong dakbayan,” Judith manifested.

He added this scheme is being practiced by other cities and municipalities in the country; thus, it is not yet late for the city to adopt the said scheme. The councilor further stressed that the proposed amendment will not only support the RISE Development Agenda of City Mayor Rolando A. Uy but will also answer to the call of City Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez for the City Council to support all of the programs and projects that will benefit the residents of the city.

The matter was referred to the Committee on Finance, Budget, and Appropriations, chaired by Councilor Yan Lam S. Lim and to the Committee on Trade and Commerce, and Committee on Ways and Means, both chaired by Councilor George S. Goking for further study.
