Ivermectin still not proven effective to treat COVID-19 – Gaane
“I stand with the Department of Health and Food and Drug advisory that as of today Ivermictin is still not effective against COVID-19”.
This was pointed out by Councilor Maria Lourdes S. Gaane, chair of the City Council committee on health and health insurance, during the regular session Monday presided over by Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy in response to the joint special report of Councilors Enrico Salcedo and Ian Mark Q. Nacaya on their experiences on the efficacy of Ivermectin.
Councilor Gaane said based on advisories of the Department of Health (DOH) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Ivermectin has not yet been proven to treat COVID-19.
“Siguro karon makita ninyo nga effective considering that COVID-19 is a viral infection, it is a self-limiting disease,” she stressed.
According to the statement of DOH Region 10, Ivermectin did not reduce the risk of death among patients with mild to severe cases. The said drug was not associated with a definite benefit in terms of clinical improvement at day 6-10, clinical deterioration, and need for mechanical ventilation.
DOH-10 also cited that Ivermectin did not reduce the duration of hospitalization and the time to resolution of symptoms.
Instead of using Ivermectin, Councilor Gaane reiterated her call to the public to practice the minimum health standards or the DOH’s BIDA Solusyon: B-awal and walang mask, I-sanitize ang mga kamay, Dumistansya ng isang metro, A-lamin ang totoong impormasyon.
