Infra project activity causing quake-like tremors in Brgy 13 reduced - DPWH
QUAKE-like vibrations caused by the ongoing pile driving activity for the Kalambaguhan-Vamenta Bridge in Barangay 13 have decreased significantly according to Department of Public Works and Highways Cagayan de Oro 2nd District Engineer Jan Paulo Lisondra.
In a recent meeting of the public works committee of Councilor Edgar Cabanals, Engr. Lisondra said that the the pile driving activity, which is said to cause the vibration, uses a conventional 45-ton diesel hammer that would help establish the structural integrity and strength of the bridge’s foundation.

Although a modern method through pneumatic pile driving is available to minimize the vibration, the lack of enough working space is a major impediment, he added.
He also said that the contractor was instructed by DPWH regional office to reduce the weight to only 39 tons. This lessened the impact of the activity for about 50%, and reports of damages in the area remain at zero, Lisondra further stated.

Barangay 13 Punong Barangay Serafin Labrada III, seconded the report of the district engineer, saying the situation has improved and the vibrations are barely noticeable since the concern was raised by Councilor Ian Mark Nacaya to the City Council two weeks ago.
In closing, the DPWH official asked the residents to extend their patience more as the pile driving phase for the city's sixth bridge is set for completion by the first week of April. (FDCalotes/SP)
