Goking warns of El Niño effects
Councilor George S. Goking, chair of the City Council committee on trade and commerce, said that businessmen, farmers and consumers need to be ready of the effects of the incoming El Niño phenomenon.
The phenomenon will surely adversely hit the agriculture sector; thus, the prices of farm products will likely increase due to limited supply, he said.
This situation should be properly handled by the LGU as it will have negative impact on the economy, said Goking.
The councilor suggested some tips to farmers in handling the situation like storing rainwater or using rainwater harvesting system. He also advised farmers to learn agricultural storage practices to prolong the shelf life of farm products.
