Goking urges COWD to improve water supply
COUNCILOR Georges S. Goking, chair of the City Council Committee on Trade and Commerce in a radio interview last week reminds the Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD) to improve the City’s water supply services. This, after many complaints were lodged by residents and the consuming public, especially the business sector.
Goking said that in that situation, investors cannot be attracted to put businesses in the city if the water supply is a big problem, citing that most of the time there is no water supply and if there is any, it is murky. The councilor is calling the attention of the COWD Board of Directors to address the problem; otherwise, they may be asked to resign and allow a new administration to come in to solve it.
It can be recalled that the COWD launched its Non-Revenue Water (NRW) Reduction Program in the city with the presence of representatives from the Department of Public Works and Highways, USAID Philippines, and the Coca-Cola Foundation.
The program was developed to reduce water losses, control leaks, and improve and extend water supply and services to more people. USAID, through its BE Secure Project, supports the program by providing technical expertise through the development of a Geographical Information System (GIS) database and hydraulic model of the network within the COWD service area, delineation and assistance with the initial implementation of district metering, and many other system implementations to have a better service.
