Goking to probe rise of snake oil salesmen
COUNCILOR George Goking, chair of the City Council committee on trade and commerce, is set to look into the rise of the so-called new snake oil salesmen in Mindanao.
He said there are reports reaching him about the proliferation of food supplements being sold in the market today.
In their advertisement, it is very convincing that a lot of consumers are using these supplements. There are people out there who are making a killing out of dietary supplements mostly of questionable origins. Even doctor examination is not necessary as it says alternative medicine and no side effects, Goking cited.
At present, there are plenty of food supplements sold in the market within the city today with very promising statements that it can prevent different kinds of ailments such as cancer, the councilor added.
Councilor Goking stressed that doing business is very much encouraged especially at this time, but the necessary permits coming from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Department of Trade & Industry (DTI), business permits, and other documents must be complied with to make the business legal.
