Games cmte reviews 2-day derby at LOSA

The Committee on Games and Amusement, chaired by Councilor Roger Abaday, deliberated on the special permit application of Mr. Rodrigo Go, president of the Lumbia Octagon Sports Arena (LOSA), to hold a two-day special cockfight event for the HIMUGSO Invitational Derby entitled: “Metro Manila vs. Mindanao” on June 13-14, 2024.

During the discussion, Councilor Abaday suggested resetting the derby to June 14-15, since the request, received on May 13, did not meet the reglementary period under Section 739 of the Codified Ordinance of Cagayan de Oro City, which requires the filing of applications for derby with the Sangguniang Panlungsod at least 30 days before the date of the derby.

Councilor Abaday also sought clarification on whether June 15, the city’s Charter Day, falls under the list of special occasions prohibited by Presidential Decree 449, also known as the Cockfighting Law of 1974.

The committee referred the matter to the City Legal Office for further study.

Councilor Aga Suan was also present during the meeting.
