Gaane highlights efforts of City Nutrition Council in achieving CROWN award
COUNCILOR Maria Lourdes S. Gaane, chair of the City Council committee on health, nutrition, and health insurance, on Monday lauded the efforts of the City Nutrition Council for the continuing hard work and dedication to the city’s nutrition program.
This was manifested by the lady councilor during the 33rd regular session of the 20th City Council presided over by City Vice Mayor Jocelyn B. Rodriguez, in her special report announcing the prestigious recognition of Cagayan de Oro City as Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) award during the annual National Nutrition Awarding Ceremony last March 20, 2023 at the Manila Hotel.
According to Councilor Gaane, the LGUs are chosen as CROWN and CROWN Maintenance Awardees for another three years. The Nutrition Honor Awardees receive the trophy and a cash prize of P1 million in the annual NNAC. “We believe that we can do just that under the present dispensation,” she said.
It was learned that the CROWN award is given to Local Government Units (LGU) that excelled in nutrition program management.
“This award recognizes the City Nutrition Council’s continuing hard work....It rewards their collective desire for excellence and success in improving nutrition for all kagay-anons,” stressed Councilor Gaane.
Councilor Gaane likewise recognized City Mayor Rolando A. Uy’s commitment in exerting efforts to deliver basic health services to the constituents.
“This is important since nutrition is a crucial component in the successful implementation of the Universal Health Care (UHC) law,” she opined.
BARANGAY NUTRITION SCHOLARS
In achieving the recognition, Councilor Gaane also acknowledged the efforts of Barangay Nutrition Scholars who she considers as silent heroes and deserving to receive the award.
“All the city’s nutrition stakeholders have earned and rightfully deserve this award,” Gaane said.
